Rock Stars Wed in La Jolla
Joshua and Lauren were married on
August 6th, 2005. It was a fabulous
extravaganza. We had a wonderful
rehearsal dinner with the wedding party
and close relatives from both families.
The wedding the
next day was
beautiful and was
followed by a
reception in La
Jolla with dining,
dancing and
entertainment
that went on
forever. They honeymooned in Europe
for a couple of weeks and returned
home energized for a wonderful life
together. Joshua is still working at
Quartus and is studying for his Master's
Degree in Aerospace Engineering at
UCSD. Lauren just entered the
Master's program at USD and is
pursuing a degree in career counseling.
They live in Balboa Park with their two
cats, Edgar and Joe.
Christina Still at Bay
Christina is the other headline maker in
2005. She is working as a paralegal and
office manager for Attorney John Frey of
San Mateo. Despite the rough start to
the job interview - she had plane troubles
returning from a trip to Alaska (more

about that later), missed her connection
in Seattle, and ended up hours late to the
interview. It appears that job was meant
to be for her; John is a huge women's
volleyball fan, Christina had perfect work
experience from her college job, and they
hit it off immediately. She recently
moved North from San Jose to Belmont,
just south of San Francisco, to a nice
apartment close to her new job.

Marty
Peterson
(we're
getting close to the Alaska thing)
proposed marriage to Christina and she
accepted; we're expecting an August 2007
wedding in Seattle. They met while
Christina was at San Jose State. Marty
was born on Kodiak Island to Aleut,
Clingit, and Norwegian parents. He is
about 6'3" and one BMF. We are very
excited and pleased to expand our family
further and look forward to another
beautiful wedding next year.
Lukens's Climb to New Heights
The end of 2005 became a flurry of
HIGH and LOW adventure with a
number of challenging treks. Mark
scaled Half Dome in Yosemite as part
of a memorial for a co-worker. During
our semi-annual August Lake Powell
Trip we hiked out of Glenn Canyon
through the 'Hole in the Rock' trail to
fabulous views from the rim. That was
a great warm up for Mt. Whitney in
September - Mark and Sonia, along with
brother Larry and his wife Leila Beth
(L&LB) led an expedition of 12 novice
hikers/campers on a 3-day assault of the
mountain - I'm not sure who really got
assaulted. It was a repeat for Mark and
LB who had both summited Mt.
Whitney over 35 years before.
A month later we celebrated Sonia's
Birthday at the Grand Canyon with
Helen, L&LB and Amelia. Mark took a
day hike from the rim to the Colorado
River and back up (20 miles) solo as no
one would accompany him. Our last
trip of the year was to Kauai for
relaxation and fun as we celebrated our
anniversary with a nice getaway.
Lukens's Earn Championship
Sonia and Mark are still playing
volleyball, softball, soccer, and ultimate
(Frisbee). They still manage to take a
championship periodically and 2005 was
no exception. Sonia's volleyball team
and their co-ed softball team (that
Joshua and Lauren also play on) both
had great seasons and took top honors
in playoffs. Sonia's soccer team did a
three-peat in the Las Vegas Spring
soccer tournament - managing to extend
their three year tournament record to a
perfect 0-9. Mark missed about 6 weeks
of sports after breaking a rib while
playing ultimate; good thing it’s a non-
contact sport. They look forward to
sports as an important and fun part of
our lives. The only things they are still
trying to figure out why most of the
players in their sports leagues seem to
be getting younger every year.
Convention 2005
(from page 1)
Our outlook for 2006 and beyond is
bright and optimistic. Our family
continues to grow and we rejoice in the
time we have to spend with them and
our many friends. We look forward to a
world where peace and tolerance will be
the norm and one where our future
generations will live in harmony and
prosperity with all their fellow human
beings.
Bless you all,
           Mark and Sonia Lukens
Local News
(from page 1)
We spend lots of time working in, and
enjoying our home and yard in Rancho
Peñasquitos. Our garden continues to
flourish and we enjoy the fruits of our
labor. Fresh vegetables and fruit make
their way into
our cooking
and onto our
table. Stop by
and enjoy a slice
of homemade
key lime pie
sometime soon.
